Anxiety is probably the most "physical" emotion that we have.
It's directly noticeable in how our body reacts to our anxious thoughts in our minds. Our heartbeat increase, muscles tense up, we may even start sweating, hyperventilating, getting dizzy, etc. Anxiety is almost always accompanied by very visible, noticeable (and often unpleasant) physical changes and processes in our bodies.
That's why we can't simply think our way out of anxiety. Because anxiety is not just a "mind emotion", or a problem that only comes from faulty thinking. It's a "whole body emotion" that requires us to take care of our bodies to be able to fully and healthily regulate it.
So, for example, while trying to distract yourself from your anxious thoughts, you need to also focus on relaxing your body through breathing exercises, meditations, gentle stretching, massage, warm showers, taking walks and so on.
Anxiety is a whole body&mind emotion, therefore it requires whole body&mind interventions, not just endlessly talking about our anxious thoughts, which can actually make anxiety worse!
